How to Add PayPal Buttons to your GoDaddy Website

In this tutorial you will learn how to add PayPal buttons to your GoDaddy website.

The GoDaddy Website Builder makes creating a website simple. You don’t need any technical expertise or coding knowledge. The interface is easy to use and offers all the bells and whistles needed for a modern responsive website.

All GoCentral plans, except Personal, allow you add up to three PayPal buttons on your website. You can use the buttons to sell products or services, or allow your visitors to make a donation to your cause.

PayPal is an easy way to accept payments online. The funds are paid into your Business or Premier PayPal account where you can access them and track your transactions with ease.

Adding PayPal buttons in the GoDaddy Website Builder

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to add PayPal buttons to your GoDaddy website:

Accessing your site in the Website Builder

To access your GoDaddy site for editing in the Website Builder:

  1. Login to your GoDaddy account.

  1. Click on the down-arrow and select My Products.

  1. In Websites, click Manage for the site you want to edit.

  1. Your site will open in preview mode. Click Edit in the top bar.

 

  1. You site will open in the Website Builder.

 

Adding a PayPal button to a page

You can add a total of three PayPal buttons to your site. These can either be Buy Now or Donate buttons, or a combination of the two.

To add a PayPal button to a page of your site:

  1. Click Pages > <Page Name> to access the page.

  1. Scroll to the position on the page where you want to insert the PayPal button and click the Add Section icon

  1. A Choose section placeholder will be inserted into the page.

  1. Click PayPal Button in the Add Section bar on the right.

  1. Choose the button type and style in the PayPal Button bar and click on your selection:
    1. Buy Now Button: Allows your customer to purchase your product or service.

    1. Donate Button (Overlay style): Allows your customer to make a donation.

  1. The PayPal button section you chose is inserted into the page. This section contains generic text that you can edit to suit your needs.

Linking your PayPal account

You need a Business or Premier PayPal account to receive PayPal payments on your GoDaddy website. You can create a PayPal account directly from the GoDaddy Website Builder (see below). If you don’t create a PayPal account, PayPal will hold your funds until you do so.

To link your PayPal account to the PayPal buttons on your GoDaddy website:

  1. Click the PayPal button in the page to activate the PayPal settings in the right bar.

  1. Enter your PayPal email address in the PayPal Email Address field, if necessary.GoDaddy assumes that your GoDaddy email is also your PayPal email and inserts this email into the field.

To create a PayPal account:

  1. Click Create PayPal Account.
  2. In the secure PayPal browser window select Business Account and click Continue.<create-paypal-account.png>

Editing the default PayPal button

GoDaddy offers three default PayPal button section styles. For each style there are a number of editing choices.

When you add a PayPal button, GoDaddy inserts a default PayPal button section into the page. This section has generic text, a theme-specific image, and a default price charged in your currency.

You can make the PayPal section completely unique by editing any or all of the elements.

To edit an element:

  1. Click the element on the page to activate the corresponding fields in the right bar.
  2. Edit the fields that display in the right bar.

 

Changing the button type, layout and colour scheme

You can change the PayPal button type, layout and colour scheme at any time.

To change the button type, layout or colour scheme:

  1. Click Change Layout in the PayPal button bar on the right.

 

  1. Select new settings:
    1. Button type and style: You can change the button type and style from your original selection to a new one, for example from Buy Now or Donate. Note! The PayPal settings needed for the two button types differ. When you change the button type, please check that you have provided all necessary settings. See Editing PayPal settings for more.
    2. Colour scheme: By default, white

      is the dominant colour in the two standard layout button sections. You can change this to blue

      or black

      by clicking the colour selectors above the example button sections. Your selection will reflect in the examples. When you change to a dark colour, the button colour changes from blue to grey. Note! The overlay section style is unaffected by the colour selectors.

 

 

Editing section text

You can customize the generic headline and description in the PayPal sections.

To change the generic text in the section:

  1. Click the headline or description on the page to activate the fields in the right bar.
  2. Edit the text in the fields:
    1. Headline: Insert a suitable headline. CSS styling is applied automatically by your theme.
    2. Description: Insert a suitable description. The editor includes formatting controls for Bold, Italics, Underline, Lists, Hyperlinks, Undo and Redo.

 

Working with section images

GoDaddy provides stock images for you to use in the Website Builder. A stock images is used in the default PayPal button sections. You can edit this image, replace it with a new image, or upload your own image.

To activate the image editing options in the right bar, click on the image in the PayPal button section on the page.

 

Editing the image

To edit the image, use the provided controls to:

  • Set the focus point: Click, hold and drag the focus circle

    in the middle the image to set the focus point of the image. This is useful when resizing. You can also drag the image itself to display a specific area of an enlarged image.<image-focus-circle.png>
  • Resize: Drag the green circle

  • Rotate: Click the Rotate icon

Using stock images

You can select a different image from the stock image library:

To select a new image:

  1. Click Stock Images.

 

  1. Select a new image in the library by clicking the image. Note! The search term defaults to your <site name> to render images most likely to be related to your niche. You can refine the search by entering a more specific search term and clicking the search icon

  1. The new image displays in the section.

 

Uploading images

You can upload you own image for the section.

To upload an image:

  1. Click My Images.

 

  1. Click Add.

 

  1. Select an image on your computer.
  2. Upload the image.

 

  1. The image displays in the PayPal section.

Editing PayPal button settings

The PayPal buttons have certain default settings that you can edit to suit your needs:

By default:

  • The Buy Now button is labelled Buy Now and the Donate button is labelled, Donate Now.
  • The currency displayed and used in the button section is set in the Default Currency field in your GoDaddy Profile.
  • Other available button settings are specific to the button type selected. These are set to the PayPal defaults.

To change the default button settings:

  1. Click on the button in the page to activate the PayPal Settings in the right bar.
  2. Edit the settings in the PayPal Settings bar.<edit-paypal-settings.png>

Buy Now button settings

The PayPal Buy Now button settings are listed below. Please ensure that these have up-to-date content. This information is required for you button to display and function correctly.

  • Button Label: Enter the button label. You can label your button anything you like. The button will expand to accommodate your text.
  • Currency: If the currency set in your GoDaddy Profile is supported, it will be selected in this field. You can change to any other supported currency by selecting a currency in the drop-down menu.

 

To activate the Price and Shipping Fee fields in the right bar, click the price in the PayPal button section on the page.

  • Price: Enter the price of the product or service.
  • Shipping Fee: The shipping fee to be charged.

Donate button settings

The PayPal Donate button settings are listed below. Please ensure that these have up-to-date content. This information is required for you button to display and function correctly.

  • Button Label: Enter the button label. You can label your button anything you like. The button will expand to accommodate your text.
  • Currency: If the currency set in your GoDaddy Profile is supported, it will be selected in this field. You can change to any other supported currency by selecting a currency in the drop-down menu.
  • Donation Method: By default donors can donate any amount they like. You can change the default selection to Donors donate a specific amount if you like. If you select this option, an additional field, Amount, will display where you can enter the amount of the fixed-price donation. When your user makes a donation, PayPal will automatically charge the specified amount. To give donors prior warning you may want to include the amount in the button label or in the page text, for example label the button Donate £20-00.
  • Donation ID: This is an optional field that you can use to identify different types of donations.

 


To activate the Organization Name field, click the headline or description in the PayPal button section on the page.

  • Organization Name: By default, your GoDaddy site title is used. This should be okay in most situations, but you can change it if you have good reason. This field is required by PayPal for Donate buttons

Deleting a PayPal button

You can delete a PayPal button section at any time by clicking Remove Section at the bottom of the right bar.

When you are satisfied with your PayPal button section, publish the page to make the PayPal button section live.
